In the 19th century the land on which this house stands was owned by the de Malmanche and Le Lievre families. Early in the 20th century, Eugene Louis Le Lievre built two similar houses on the land. This one was first rented, then passed to the widow of one of Eugene’s sons.
In the 1940s it was bought by Dr Stewart, then the town’s doctor. In the 1970s it passed to Dr Patrick who took over the practice. In that decade the doctor’s surgery was moved from the house to the hospital. In the following decade, in 1985, new owners turned the house into a bed and breakfast.
The substantial two-storey house is in the English Domestic Revival style, which was strongly influenced by the Arts and Crafts Movement. It has the irregular roof lines, prominent chimneys and decorated gable ends typical of houses in this style.
